  • False Alarms

What is your dept's procedure for numerous false alarms in one place? i mean the ones you get like 5-6 times a week. do you proceed routine? start charging them? have trucks standby at the station and send pov's? we had this problem at a nursing home once. on about the 6th alarm activation at about 3am, it turned out to be an actual fire. just wanted everyone else's input. thanks.

We don't change how we respond to them. We still go code and treat it like a potential fire. However, after 3 false alarms in a year they get charged nearly $300 for each false alarm we get sent on after those first three.

We always respond as for any other call. In the past, only with severe cases of f/a 's (2 or 3 a day for a couple of days straight)the business has been told to take the alarm offline and post an employee on fire watch.

Two stations always respond to the calls, we being a small department with about 10 guys and 2 trucks after about the 3rd false call we just dont go (Unless the other station says its code red or something)

we still respond as if an emergency. About 3 years ago we started having false alarms at a nursing home 2 to 3 times a week. we asked our township supervisors to pass a false alarm ordinace so we could charge after 3 alarms in one month.

          stay safe

we had this problem at our elementary school here and it hasn't happened for awhile but we talked to them and they have it changed now so that it calls them first before dispatching us, but we are also lucky enough to have a fireman living directly across the street so as soon as he hears it he goes out and does a walk around to confirm nothing is wrong. but we had discussed charging the school district up to $1000 for having them and not fixing it.
