I've always been impressed with the various Emerald Societies I've seen at the St. Patrick's Day parade in NYC. Our area does not have an emerald society that I know of for volunteer firefighters. Could anyone give me some tips on how to start one? Thanks in advance!

I would imagine getting together a bunch of Irish firefighters who can play the bagpipes would be a great place to start.Seriously though, try the FDNY Emerald Society site at www.fdnypipesanddrums.com, or email them at [email protected] , they would be about the best source of info in the country, and should be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck!

There is a Grand Council of Emerald Societies that meets at the Castle Harbour Casino in the Bronx once a month. They are pretty much the authority on the formation of Emerald Societies in the Northeast. About three years ago they helped the Long Island Railroad Emerald Society get started. I dont have an address right now but I will E-mail it to you if you're interested. Contact me @ [email protected]
