How can you get chief's to do their job as in decipline matters, enforcing rules and stop trying to make everyone like him just to get re-elected and make people think he is doing a good job when some of the people say behind his back he needs to get balls and stand up to people(i think we would get more support if he just stood up to people and do what is right)

Is there a volunteer firefighter union? I would say the only way to address such issues is through a contract, that or going to the public.

What type of vol. organization are you, Not for profit, town owned fire district or municipal. If you are a not for profit or incorporated the body membership can handle disciplinary matters or they can appoint a board to oversee the matter so the chief has some guidance on the issues at hand. Also was the violation severe enough to warrant any action or just maybe a verbal warning .
I have found that you really have to look at WRITTEN documents that state standard guidelines of operation or bylaws to see if there was a violation. if so use those documents to press the issue if you feel it warrants it. Sometimes these are delicate matters that have to be handled carefully to avoid any type of legal proceedings. Stay safe!
