  • RE: Chief Can’t Send Firefighters To Church

I was quite troubled when I read the initial story on this and then the subsequent followup - these firefighters were to represent thier department at a Community Appreciation. But they chose not to and got the ACLU involved. (Don't get me started on what I think about the ACLU). Gee would the ACLU get involved the next time a fire crew doesn't want to go to a day care center for a pub ed visit!!!! ( I know can the sarcasm).

I wonder, if the Chief was so hell-bent on someone attending this, why didn't he go and represent the department? Instead, he oversteps and "orders" them to attend, they refuse, and instead of going through proper channels they run to the ACLU. They won their case, got an apology, but at what cost to the public relations in the city?

This case was handled wrong from the get-go, and you can bet the department, as a whole, will be the ones to pay for it. SAD!
