  • Does your dept have the same problems?

The big issue around Eastern Nebraska lately is the result of truck inspections in Omaha. Recently, the Omaha Fire Dept had all 22 of their Aerials inspected. Only 5 passed. The newest aerial in the fleet is a '93, the oldest frontline aerial is a '74. This truck has seen more fires than most members of the dept. I do know that the City of Omaha has purchase 4 new aerials, but they wouldn't have, had this inspection not been completed. Has anyone else had this problem?
(I don't know much of the specifics, or even who the inspection team was)

Who made these aerials just so others know what not to buy.

Was there a service problem, did Omaha not take care of these trucks.

I guess the deal was that a few years back someone decided it would be a good idea to send only aerials out on EMS calls. Thus, freeing up the engines. After four or five years of constant runs, the inevitable happened. They fell apart. They just aren't made to put 100,000 miles on in that short of time. At least that's the story I got.
