  • Reflective Vests? ....A POLL yes or no

I Was just wondering how many of your Departments require persons who aren't wearing bunker gear near roadways, to wear some sort of reflective vests for saftey? A simple yes or no will suffice, but any comments would be appreciated. Thanks Guys.

Try to put anyone directing traffic, wearing gear or not, in an orange vest. The public tends to expect the "Orange vests" to be directing traffic.

Also deploy many cones to help keep traffic away and remind our members where the travel lane is and where we're operating!

We recently added vests for traffic control on all of our equipment . The idea is to have either turnout gear or a reflective vest on also if at night a flashlight in your hand. The more visible you can make yourself the better.
Stay Safe the Roads sure arent!

For us, if you don't have bunker gear with you, then you can not approach the scene PERIOD!

We don't have vests but, our Fire Police due. Here's one other thing they recently started switching from orange with reflective stripes to lime green with reflective stripes. I'm not sure if this was a result of some thing they found out at a training or if it was something they received information about from another source. Maybe someone decided that they should have different vests then the highway crews.

Absolutely YES! On the highway, day OR night, visibility equals safety. It doesn't guarantee it, but you have a better staying alive if the passer-bys can see you.

              Be safe.

Anyone directing traffic on any incident will have a vest.

Also, on large incidents we have the 'specialty' vests for people such as water officer, staging etc. We have a large section of our first due without hydrants so tanker shuttles become the norm. We have found that with the number of people standing around in turnout gear, we all look the same so by putting a vest on someone, it makes it a little easier for arriving units to pick out who's calling the shots on where they should be dumping their water, etc.

Vests are required to be worn, and are issued to all members, career and volunteer, as part of their turnout gear.

We use them after the "working" part of the incident is over. While "working" the incident must be in full turnout gear. In our area OSP and local units handle traffic for us.

We are required to wear turnout gear at all MVAs from dispatch until returning to the station.

We have reflective vests in our Squad (Ambulance)for those occasions when it's not an MVA (Chest pains after being pulled over by Police, etc.)

Yes if we dont have our turnout on we are required to wear reflective vests.Workcover which is the national safety organisation is very heavy handed with fines for breaches, they are self funded as well.

If you not wearing PPE, which is required at all times unless advised to dress down by the OIC in hot weather, you are required to wear reflective vest.

                            Gotta stay safe.
