History of the vol. fire service

I am doing a project on the history of the Volunteer fire dept. Anyone with and interesting stories, facts, ect.. would be much appreciated

No time to really get into facts and dates but look into Ben Franklin and Boston for starters. also the ancient egyptians had a form of volunteer firefighting however it is probably a bit too different for what your looking for. good luck!!
