EDMONTON - Two bulldogs are dead but a pit bull was revived using an oxygen mask after a strip mall fire in Edmonton’s west end on Monday afternoon.
Firefighters were called to Doggie Deli, located at a strip mall at 151 Street and Stony Plain Road, after a 911 call at 4:15 p.m., said Edmonton Fire Rescue spokesman Tim Wilson.
Crews found the store locked, but were able to bring the fire under control within half an hour.
Firefighters found two dogs dead from smoke inhalation, but revived the third using an oxygen mask designed for animals. Such masks are carried in every pump truck.
“The district chief drove the dog to a veterinarian to receive emergency treatment,” said Wilson. “The last he checked in, the dog was doing well.”
The store, which opened in 2008, was Edmonton’s first restaurant exclusively for dogs. It also sells treats, pet accessories, and offers pet grooming services.
This fire is under investigation.
