We used to play softball at the department I was an associate member of - pick up games against other VFDs....one of the most important rules was no knocking over the BEERS! lol....ahh...good times.....

Department Baseball was big at one time here, many decades ago. A retired Captain used to come by and talk baseball with me and admitted he was hired on the basis of his curve ball. He also said there were several former Washington Senators and released minor leaguers hired for baseball reasons also as long as they were "within the correct age for civil service."
