It gets you to the same point, just different methods and names.

What do you intend on using a single strand of webbing with a carabiner on both ends for?

You can tie anything in webbing, it is a form of flat rope. Most common are water knots and overhand knots. But nothing says that a figure 8 on a bite is not a safe knot to use in webbing. A knot holds its strenght by surface contact aka friction. Webbing because of the nature of its design provides a great deal of surface area to cause friction.

If you're looking to tie a loop at each end, tie an overhand on a bight on each end.

It's been a while since I have done any type of tech rescue or training, but as far as I remember, the Water Knot is the only knot approved for use (by all of the credentialed training agencies) with webbing. Can anyone else lend some insight???

Types of WEBBING knots
I have been looking around for different ways of using webbing. I consistantly find the " water knot " in every book and website. ALthough, I don't see any other type of knot used with webbing. The water knot is only good for creating a loop with webbing.
I am trying to use a single strand of webbing with a carabiner at both ends. What type of knot would I use at the end of the webbing? Will it be safe for a rescue operation?
I have seen pictures but none with a description of the type of knot they are using. Thanks!Tags: None
