  • Boyle Co. Pumper Rolls over.

A Boyle County Fire Department fire truck wrecked on Ky. 52 this morning, sending four firefighters to the hospital and closing the road for hours.

The firefighters, none of which are believed to have serious injuries, were responding to a chimney fire in about the 6000 block of Lancaster Road when the truck apparently veered off the road after rounding a sharp S curve near Pope Road, BCFD Asst. Chief Paul McCrystal said.

The truck then came back onto the road, clipped a pickup truck and ended backward on its side.

McCrystal said he cannot determine what exactly happened until he speaks with the driver, who is currently at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center with the other three firefighters in the wreck.

Kenneth Runyon, the driver of the pickup truck, had no injuries and said he is unsure what caused the wreck.
"The only thing I can tell you is the fire truck lost it," he said.

Traffic was closed for at least two hours this morning while official cleared the scene and a wrecker moved the fire truck.

At about 11:30 a.m. McCrystal said it would take at least another hour to reopen the road

Pretty good description of the crash from the lucky pick-up driver in the oncoming lane.
