Well, after years of planning, saving, waiting and hoping, our new station project is finally about to commence! We accepted bids around the first of the year and signed a contract this week. I'm excited, relieved, and nervous all at the same time.
From the beginning, I had planned to start a forum thread when the project got started, and use it as a blog of sorts, post pictures of the progress, that kind of thing. There was really nothing to post before now, just pictures of grass growing and reports of "still waiting"
We were extremely fortunate, nay, blessed, to have received notice in October that we had been awarded a FEMA Station Construction Grant, after having initially received a denial back in June (guess they found some more money
) We slipped in on the 5th and final round, one of only two Station Construction projects awarded in Louisiana.
We had our first informal meeting with the contractor at the job site today. Our engineer has been handling all the communications, bid process, etc., so this was our first time meeting the builders. They will be moving some of their equipment onto the site next week and are scheduled to begin construction on May 2nd.
As the project moves forward, I will be posting some pics as things evolve. If all goes according to schedule we should be moving in before the end of the year. I just wanted to share our story here and I hope you enjoy following our progress. Comments and questions are welcome!
