I'm looking to see if we have any members who compete in triathlons, specifially Ironman events. I am training for my first one later this fall. I have an idea that is still in its infancy, but I would like to put together a national "team" of firefighters who race ironman events. Most of these events can be done for charity. The idea is still in its infancy, but if there is some interest I will continue to develop it.

I did a sprint tri a few years back and would like to finish an IM in a few years but wont be ready this year. I've got 2 centuries planned this year so that will have to do. My "A event" is the Death Before Dismount double metric in September. (www.highlandercycletour.com) I did the "shorter" version, a mere 105 miles and 13k feet of climbing, in 2009 and it was brutal! -
I do half IM's and I mostly stick to tough mudders and warrior dashes. It would be a good idea for a team but would it be local or regional? I see so few at the comps that I don't really know how cohesive it would be, but I'd still sign up for one if given the chance."I was always taught..." Check at ridebackwards.com and go into the forum section. Pretty good site for firefighter athletic gear. I know they have quite a few triathletes there thoughComment

Ride Backwards has some awesome stuff.
I like your idea JT, I have been contemplating training for an Ironman again. My last IM two IM were DNFs, last one I completed was IM CdA in 2006."The nation which forgets its defenders will be itself forgotten." - (John) Calvin Coolidge

Ya I've had the idea for a while, and its still in development. It would be open to any firefighter anywhere to join. I was thinking it would be a great networking opportunity, get training tips, etc. We would develop a website, team/club name, and eventually some jerseys/tri gear. Eventually it could develop into us racing across the country under one club name. I will keep you guys updated as the idea progresses.Fire Service Interview questions

Ironman CDA
I have done Ironman CDA in '04 and '05 and am training again for it this year. I ran into a Michigan FF at www.beginnertriathlete.com so the tri boards would be another place to check. Seattle has a few guys that do Ironman and distance events, I am trying to get a bike jersey designed right now for all the triathletes and cyclists we have.
I want to say I saw a firefighter team at CDA one year, but it also may have been on a bike ride. I would be interested in some sort of club, heck, maybe designate a few races as Police/Fire competitions (a specific class rather than racing in your age group). I think this has been done before. Its always good to get advice and input from others who have the same schedule.

Great idea, I've posted the idea on bike forums and some tri forums also, so far there has been a good response. I've got a guy building a nice website for it. I'll make an announcement as it comes close to being finished.Fire Service Interview questions
