The Worst House Fires

I have come to the conclusion that after today's shift the the hardest house fires to put out are those of hoarders. Mostly because of of all the clutter that can burn. I have had a few and they are some of the worst. In one of the houses there was a man who collected newspapers. I bet you can count on your fingers how fast it went up in seconds. Has any one encountered any structure fires with so much junk that when you make an entry there is nowhere to go? Sorry for any randomness

I have been to so many that all the fingers and toes of just the members on line right at this moment wouldn't be enough to use to count.

My bad. What I ment is what fire was your favorite to put out.
You are right the worst fires are when lives are lost especially brothers but
what I ment by "worst fire" was the fastest to go up and the one that burned
the fastest. sorry for the poor choice of words

Favorite to put out: All of 'em. As quickly as possible.

Least favorite - old houses with dozens of void spaces.

Absolute least favorite - hay fires (and barn fires with lots of hay).

Some sobering thoughts.....

I still remember one fatal house fire I went to - it was down the road from my then-boyfriend.....our department was paged out for a reported 'working fire' - as we pulled out of his driveway we could see the glow and there was another neighbor in the road on her phone saying it 'was the old mans' house'.....I still remember her cordless phone was white.......we get down the road to find a working fire in an old summer bungalow which had been inhabitated by an 'old man'....I used to see him almost every day walking up the road but never knew where he lived.....

At the time we would get gear off the apparatus, so we did, and worked on extinguishing the fire.....I helped carry the old man from him resting place outside on the ground up to the coroners' van.....apparently the fire started between him and the door and he made it out of the building before collapsing.....


This was almost 20 years ago and I can still picture it.....it was my first fatal fire.....
Are some structure fires 'fun'...well - I guess in out sometimes twisted minds, yes, it may be 'fun' - or a better work might be invigorating, exciting.....but mostly, they are a sobering reminder that we all are mortal.....things don't last forever, and tragedy can hit anyone at any time......

I'm sorry if I mis worded this. By NO means do I enjoy seeing fires burn peoples homes or take lives. I was just trying to hear a few stories. Stay Safe everyone. I am going to edit and reword my thread. Oh and sorry if this was random.

If you don't enjoy doing this then wtf are you on a forum about it. Of course it can be fun. There is nothing in my life more ENJOYABLE then staring at a darkened doorway masking up. I might not sit around and say "man, I hope **** burns today" but I will tell you that "if **** has to burn, I hope it burns in my district." Give the guy a break. All he wants to hear is some war stories.

Never did he say that watching a family stare at their properties go up in smoke was "fun," and I don't remember reading "I enjoy fatalities."

I don't like that people get hurt, that people lose their home and/or possessions, that people may die. I don't hope for fires, but they happen. If they are going to happen, I'd rather be going to it.

Maybe like is a bad word, but if firemen didn't want to work, it wouldn't be a fight to get into a busy company. Guys wouldn't be trying to get jobs at busy departments. Think about it, what companies have the most people trying to transfer into them? The busiest ones.

I enjoy fighting every single fire I face.

I hate every fire for what it does to lives and property

Therefore, the ceasing of devastation that fire brings is the reason for my enjoyment when extinguishing it.
