Looking to buy a Handheld Radio

I'm looking to buy a VHF handheld radio. It would have to come with charger and I'd like it to be a 16 channel radio. Would like a pager channel but don't have to have one. I don't want to spend over 200 dollars.

Won't be getting much NEW for under $200. Like the others said,try Ebay. BE AWARE radio will have to be PROGRAMMED,depending on the amount of channels and subtones can run into some $. We use Vertex 350's 16 channel,page capable. They're under $300. Decent radio for the $. T.C.

A nice inexpensive radio for exterior use. I wouldn't want to bring it interior and hinge my crew's life on it...

Just working on a budget. It does handle water well.

I would love to see the guy get a nice Tait radio, but his budget won't allow it.

Go buy a Bendix King EPH, it has 210 channels total broken up into 14 channel Banks. It is Narrowband-able And completely field programmable
(i can reprogram mine in the time it takes you to read this post). Parts are every where and cheap, and You can find the programing manuals on line

Not all EPH radios are narrowband capable, they are heavy, and I don't believe they do two tone do they?

Are they still available new, or is there a replacment now?

Puxing. Two for $140 from one source, although that's not the FCC approved version.

Get a decent spkr/mic to go along with it, though. The Kenwood spkr/mic plugs right in.

Software to program is free. Cable can be had for around $25.

I wouldn't take them interior, but they'll handle the outside stuff.

They can also be programmed from the keypad. Over 100 channels, and narrow-band capable to boot.

The FCC version is also available, but costs a little more.

Using a non-certified toy radio for emergency services is probably not a wise idea. You can't base your choices solely off of cost.

my vollie department uses bendix kings and they are amazing they are great for interior or exterior and like was said you can program them in the feild if need be and they are tone capeable a few of our ff's use theres as pagers as well as a radio

Most departments around here who are not on an 800 system use Kenwood. We have used the TK-272s for years with little to no issues. They have since been discontinued and replaced with the TK-2302, but they are all over eBay. I bought one used for $200 about 5 years ago and it has been a good radio. That is what I would suggest.
