RescueThreeTwo, I feel your pain. August 27, 2006 my own Department lost a member in Iraq. Tristan Smith was a member of our company and a rising star in the fire service in our area. We also had the honor of providing an escort from Dover back to our area, just outside of Philadelphia in Montgomery County. All overpasses, interchanges, etc were manned by area Fire/Police/EMS departments, and many, many citizens also paid tribute as well. I was not personally involved, however I have seen a slide show of the journey and it was truly overwhelming. The DAFB Fire Department even escorted him from the morgue facility to the main gate of the Base.

Here is a picture someone created of Tristan.

Moving tribute. I have a few pals out in Afghanistan. Whether British, American, Canadian or any other nationality, they're very brave men and women.

started a topic This is what the Brotherhood is all about

This is what the Brotherhood is all about

Recently, a friend of mine and fellow firefighter from a neighboring company in my home town was killed in action in Afghanistan. There was an overwhelming show of support from local fire departments, military veterans, and citizens on the day of his funeral. Just as touching though was the procession which escorted him from Dover AFB back home to Bordentown, NJ. EVERY overpass along the interstate was manned by fire department personnel saluting him for the final time.

This video was put together by one of the firefighters from his station who escorted him home:
