Recently, a friend of mine and fellow firefighter from a neighboring company in my home town was killed in action in Afghanistan. There was an overwhelming show of support from local fire departments, military veterans, and citizens on the day of his funeral. Just as touching though was the procession which escorted him from Dover AFB back home to Bordentown, NJ. EVERY overpass along the interstate was manned by fire department personnel saluting him for the final time.
