  • Loctite and Boston Leather truck belt accessories

Just a quick reminder for anyone using Boston Leathers' truck belt.

Make sure you remove the screws on the hook and ring accessories and apply Loctite to the screws.. If you don't, they will work loose. I lost a screw on my 3" ring somewhere on the fire ground when I used it to carry an axe.. Noticed it a few days later when I inspected the belt.

Also, I noticed a screw working loose on my snap hook accessory .. Took care of that

If you do Loctite like I mentioned you will not have anymore problems.

**Since then, I have gone to a Sav-A-Jake leather axe holder that is far superior for the task of carrying an axe. The 3" ring WILL let the axe fall out on you while you are bending over working etc.( it did that night )

The combination of the Boston Leathers' belt, Loctite and the Save-A-Jake axe holder, I now have what I want and I am very happy.

Boston Leather really needs to rivet their accessories like Sav-A-Jake and others do...

    Screws = FAIL

Ditto on the Sav-A-Jake stuff. His work is top notch. If he does not already list what you need, he will custom make it. He is a full time firefighter as well. One of the guys here has a truck belt he made of nylon and it's a work of art. I have half a dozen of his assorted items.

I also have his Channellock rescue tool carrying pouch on my belt.. VERY well-made and looks rock solid. Keeps it right where I can easily get it in a flash. I also got the radio mic "leash" in kevlar.. Keeps it where i is supposed to be when I need it.

Sav-A-Jake will definately get more business from me.. Nice to know he does custom stuff.. gives me a couple of ideas

That pouch was my creation! When i got my Channellock tool, the window spike i knew would cause issues with my pockets and the tool is nice and heavy for other uses, i wanted it very accessible. So i email him and asked if he could make me a pouch that had the following features:

        1. A belt loop with snaps, not stitched. This was it can be added to a class II Harness.
        2. Either thick leather or heavy nylon on the top flap to the cover the spike.
        3. Reflective trim.

He did not have a Channellock tool so i took pictures of mine next to a ruler from all sides so he could get the dimensions. And a week later, it was born. I got the very first one.

Another item i had him create that he now sells is the Halligan marrying strap with the retainer. He always offered a marrying strap, but when the strap was undone, it needed to be held onto by someone or it would end up getting lost. I told him i wanted the strap but with a second, smaller strap with some non slide rubber around it so that it could be kept attatched to the Halligan bar and never get lost. He also made me another version i requested for our bolt cutters. If you grabbed the bolt cutters by one handle, often times they would swing open. Most guys swith small hands could not hold them closed while carrying them with one hand, so now we have the strap that holds them shut and one end of it stays attached to one of the two handles and never gets lost.

That is what is great about him, if he does not have what you want, he is willing to create it. One item i asked for that he could not do because he cannot find out where to get the quick release buckles is a flashlight strap. I like the strap on my Streamlight Vulcan with the quick release buckle. But the strap is solid black. I wanted the same type of strap, but with reflective trim and a small pouch near the top to hold a shove knife and a combo scredriver. Plus a clip (the kind on turnout gear) to hold access keys.

His radio straps are also incredible. Much nicer then the Boston leather versions. His are much more supple and feel more solid. I have one of them, plus a tool roll, Hurricane Search line, Search line bag, SCBA mask pouch, an actual Sav-A-Jake tool and some other odds and ends.

How cool is that!?.. I love that channellock pouch.

I really think that it would be cool to be in on a new product as successful as that pouch. I originally ordered the The Fire Stores' version of the "leather" tool case and I was NOT impressed with the construction and quality.. That thing looks like it was made as cheap as they could make it. Leather? Looks more like "pleather" to me.. Thin as paper.

I liked the fact he uses a dee ring on his belt accessory instead of the 3" rings like B. Leather does. I took mine and removed the 3" ring, then added a forged nickel-plated brass dee ring I got from a horse tack shop.. It is a lot more useful that way.

Just keep it in mind if you think of something you want that does not exist but involves leather or nylon, shoot him an email.

Just curious, what's your beef with him?.. You just joined this month and you act like this?.. Wow..

You asked him how old he is. You trolling for a date or something?

Just ignore the trolls. They have no social life so they hide behind their computers and join internet forums where they talk tough and say the things that would not possibly even consider saying to anyone in person. And of course, they sit and wait for a response so they can feel as though they are getting to people.

I have kids older then him, and more mature.

I recently received an O ring model like OP originally describes but have yet to use it (Waiting on a belt)

I'm curious about this savajake model. Can it be configured for use with a halligan?

I don't believe it could be used. Boston Leather has a 4" ring accessory that will fit a Halligan. I tried it with the 3" ring and it was a bit too small. The 4", it should drop right in. I would get in touch with Sav-A-Jake and, like mentioned in a previous post, he would fabricate one for you to your specs/ideas.

I like the Boston Leather belt because it has the snap ring/3" ring system as opposed to the traditional buckle system of the Sav-A-Jake... Only because the snap ring/3" ring would be faster donning.. and the fact that you can configure the Boston Leather belt to do different things with it

Unless their is some sort of patent issue, i am sure Sav-A-Jake could replicate the snap ring clousure.
