My quwestion would be how many departents woul hire an ARFF firefighter with a certification but no experience when there are more than likely a glut of experienced ex-USAF ARFF personnel coming out of the Aire Force or other branches?
In my experience, most departments train members to ARFF after they have spent some time on the floor as an engine or truck-level firefighter as compared to hiring them as such. And yes, obviously many ARFF only airport departments may be exception.

Not sure how PA works, but you might contact the state fire folks. I'm sure they will know what's happening, or at least be able to provide you with some contact information.

Are you going to be paying for it yourself or the department sending you?
I would say contact you training division. They may want certain types of training and a specific certification.

I went to ARFF school at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport's DPS Training Academy. The training was top-notch the was competitively priced. There website is here:

DFW Airport is a city in and of itself and maintains their own police, fire, and EMS departments. Although they use the DPS training facilities for their folks, they also train alot of folks from other organizations.

Alabama Fire College is about as close as you can get. I have heard good things about them but cannot speak from personal experience.

I would recommend the South Carolina Fire Academy. They offer classes on a pretty regular basis. I went through the program a while back and thought that it was a great class. Good luck and if you have any questions about their program I'd be more than happy to try to answer them.
