One suggestion ---- you seemed a little defensive when called about your spelling. If/when questioned about a call you made that went South - dont answer with " Ive seen a lot worse"
Im not new to reading these forums.I have read and listened to many knowagable people and this is why I decided to join and ask for some simple advice. Quick run down of where I come from....A full volunteer fire department of a population of about 1200 with 13 sq. miles of district. averageing about 475 to 500 calls a year. Ive been a member for 8 years and the last 2 Ive held a rank of LT. Ive now been informed that in January Im moving up to captian, and quite frankly a little nervous about it.I guess im taking this more serious than the LT spot because I know have officers under me and not just firemen. Just looking for some tips and advice on moving on up. Thanks for listening
Getting promoted from Lieutenant to Captain in a volunteer department is like changing your underwear every day!
There isn't a dimes worth of difference in the position, unless you guys run the show hard and fast by military organization rules and regulations.
You still going to do the job as you did or was suppose to as a Lieutenant. You may have a few more duties thrushed upon you, but having been a Lieutenant for 2 years, you should do just fine.
Yes this is true... my spelling isnt the best and I meant to spell check before I posted. I have also been trying to type it for about an hour and finally just sent it.I have read alot worse on this forum.
Congratulations on your upcoming promotion. Check out the Career Forum. Lots of great advice on this subject. Take your job seriously, not yourself. Your crews are already used to you being in a leadership position. Keep doing what you've been doing. Just do it better.
