  • Axes...what weight?

What is your choice of weight of either the pick head or flat head axe?

It seems like the 6 pound varieties are the most common. I am not sure if that is because of cost or lightness for carry. I prefer the 8 pound axe because of the extra force you can apply because of the additional weight. Its kind of like the same reason a firefighter would pick an 8 or 10 pound sledgehammer.

We run sixes on the flatheads...I grab the 10 lb maul.... I've used 8s in so many classes, pushed the issue, and been told too costly, too big, ect, ect, ect, that I'm blue in the face. I get mocked for the roundface maul, but I get a good crack on the halligan with it. I've seen departments use straight up triangle flatface splitting mauls. Heavy as sin and effective as h**l.

We go 8 lb. on the flat head axes and TNT tools. Pick head axes...who cares.

Wow! I bet that works great for driving the Halligan.

                  Simply ludicrous.

we don't judge our axes based on weight, only cost. I can assure you, ours are the cheapest.

I will argue that, after 180 they become.......more than a handful.

In the efforts of trying to keep this on topic so our awesome webteam doesn't lock it, most of our crews use the 6lbs. Our bigger and more aggressive guys they usually grab the the splinting maul or the sledge, because lets face who wants to be stuck at the door?

Well you sir aren't very good at handling cattle, I mean women.

I couldn't tell you what we got on the trucks. I think 6, but the average small town home door here isn't locked to begin with.
