  • Pocket Tools- Golf Tees and Golf Balls?

Now I know there have been close to a zillion threads on what you carry in your pockets, after reading most of them I've seen some odd things.

For all of you carrying golf tees; 2,3,4,5, 19 golf tees; how often, if ever, have you used them?
How many can say they have actually used a tee on a call and not on the green!

It really makes me wonder why people say they carry 4 tees and 2 chocks, I would think chocks are more important and get used more often. There's alot of doors but only soo many ... whatever you use a golf tee for!

Also, I've heard of people carrying golf balls? what exactly is the practical use of a golf ball in your turnouts? I’ve heard some theories and don’t really understand.

Soo, what are some of the odd items you’ve seen or heard of brothers carrying?

I remember doing a class where everyone was required to dump their pockets; one kid had about 12 slim jims. We all did push ups while he ate them all on the scorching hott day!!

You carry multiple golf balls in case you lose one of them.

    Duh.

I've heard of golf balls (or rocks, etc.) for ventilation if the truck's delayed. I'm told 'back in the day' any neghborhood kids that showed up to watch would be encouraged to throw rocks at the windows to break them. Not a technique I've employed yet (edit - nor do I carry any golf implements.)
Opinions expressed are mine alone, and do not necessarily reflect those of the Philadelphia Fire Department and/or IAFF Local 22.

You carry golf balls because your own balls are useless to play with on cold nights. The tees are to keep your balls up off the bottom of your pocket because the bottom of your pocket is dirty.

Your doing it wrong. Cold nights are the best time to play with your own balls. Warms up cold hands.

Golfballs- Vent windows, or throw at cars out on the highway that nearly hit you, or are about to hit you.

Tee's- Chock open doors, also carry 1-2 in a pocket to possibly try to plug up a cracked gas line at a MVA.

In case you have a long incident at a golf course

Just pull off a pike pole, axe, shovel and play nine holes, because you have the golf balls and tees. Ala "Tin Cup" and the landscaping clubs

I have never seen the need for either. I would much rather have nails for doors, not flimsy tees. And as for golf balls? They would break older single pain glass, but most newer double pane stuff will typically only end up having the outer layer broken. If i need to break a window that quickly, ill look around for a rock or any sutible object laying around. Piece of firewood, lawn chair, garden tool, etc.

And, not every fireman can do that!

Most of these responses are what I expected and truly, I appreciate it. Glad I’m not the only one thinking about this nonsense.

As for TruckSixFF , I appreciate you chiming in as well. This isn’t directed at you(even though your name is at the beginning of my sentence) but do golf balls really break windows? As a kid I remember accidentally hitting several windows with BASEBALLS and they just bounced off!
Also, have you ever used a golf tee on a call? How many fuel lines do you needed to plug? And nails work a hell-of-a lot better then wooden golf tees!

Golf balls are not gender exclusive.

Not just for fuel lines. They will slow the flow of small punctures in fuel tanks so plug-n-dike works better. We keep them in a coffee can with our redwood plugs.
