Not sure why because of 9/11. My son was born on 9/11 1983.

Does that mean he is not for real? I WANT MY MONEY BACK!

At 15 years young you should concentrate on school. Nothing will take you further than education and a diploma.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

If you want to do something with your life, shave your face, cut your hair, work hard and be honest and upstanding. People will take you seriously.

    or...

If you want to play and party, let your hair grow, get some tatoos and pierce everything imaginable. People will shun and ignore you.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

    Sorry, you asked for it...

Hello, My name is Cory, Born 9/11/95.

I am thinking about getting into firefighting, I am also a musician that is in and out of various local bands.

I just have a simple question.

Would I have to cut my hair?

Ive been told that I don't, and that I do have to cut it. Its half way down my back.

    Please reply.

    Cory.

    Cory or crowbar whatever,

You have to shave your body clean.

No hair anywhere for the lice check!

Only after you finish your probation you may let some of the hair grow back but not all.

Thanks for all of the GOOD answers. Also, my hair is like SUPER thin, so it should fit in the gear fine. Also, the reason why I dont want to cut it, is NOT because im a musician, its because I look HORRIBLE with short hair, some guys just need long hair.

I also, want to do something with my life that helps other people. Which is why i want to get into firefighting. Helping people is what I love doing. It makes me feel so good when I help someone.

Also, Music is a field I would be lucky to ever get in, Im always in and out of bands because of musical differences. The Last one I was in was The Cleansing Epidemic. They are all broken up now. I love mixing rock, with Metal, and Hardcore. Kind of like Bullet For My Valentine. I play, Acoustic, Electric, and Bass Guitar, Drums, and keyboard. I can also do Hardcore vocals.

Im surprised its even still up, since we all broke up. I was lead guitarist.

    Take care

I've been in some places where I expected to see flannel turnout gear.

Around here the worst thing is a handicapped parking permit on the rear view mirror...right below the LED dash light.

    LOL!!

Best response in this thread. Hands down.

It comes down to protecting yourself.

If your hair (facial or on your scalp) interferes with the proper wearing of your PPE, you need to lose it. A mask fit test will be the ulimate decider on that goatee.

NFL players can get away with letting their dreads hang out of their helmet. The first time you do that in a real fire situation, you may get a "trim" courtesy of the red devil.

The ladies among us face the same problem (except for the goatee, I hope...).

On a side note what are most departments policy on facial hair? I have a goatee I keep trimmed and very short. I was planning on shaving it for school but didn't know if it was allowed once on the job....
