  • Need ideas for new engine dedication

We will receive our new engine any day. Because our department shares its name with the local elementary school (which sits just yards behind our station), I have thought about involving the kids at school in the dedication.

    Anybody done this? Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Use the truck being replaced to squirt water onto the new one , passing on it's knowledge to the new one, then let dome of the children help dry it off

Then let more of the children help push the truck into the station, with a little help from the motor

Then have a contest to nickname the new truck, and give the winner a ride and lunch

Years ago we bought a new truck on a lease purchase. We held a contest to come up with a sponsor name on the truck. It was much like a bid, high bidder pledged an amount and won the right to put a name on the truck. Had to be in good taste.

Our bank lease was $102,000, and the winning sponsor pledged $55,000. They gave the truck a catchy name without their business name... real class. We just put a small plague on the truck naming them as the truck sponsor.

If you apply this to the kids, hold a contest to name the truck. Take a week to get the names submitted. Then form a committee made up of appointed kids, teachers and fire dept staff to weed through the names. Then hold an election at the school and let the kids vote for the name. Make it a big PR thing with the newspaper, radio and TV. It will make the dedication that much more of a big deal. It will give you a great relationship with the kids and school. You might even make a few bucks from donations. You could even give the kid with the winning name a prize or certificate.

      Good Luck.

Call Ryan Secrest's radio show and dedicate "Endless Love" to the new apparatus.
