Go to your local AutoZone/Pep Boys/O'Reilly's and pick up a can of Eagle 1 Nevr Dull Magic Wadding Polish.

Tell the Chief to shine his own badge.

I am now a past chief and the views, opinions, and comments are mine and mine alone. I do not speak for any department or in any official capacity. Although, they would be smart to listen to me.

              Cleaning a Badge

I've used toothpaste and it works great. Just make sure you use the rookies brush though...

A gold badge is really a gold plated brass badge.

Plating does wear off. Brass tarnishes.

The only solution in that case is to have the badge replated. You'll probably have better luck simply buying a new one.
Opinions my own. Standard disclaimers apply.
