  • 9-11 Bashers

I thought you guys would like this one. The commentary from an idiot named Brent McDermott is shameful.

All you conservatives out there who embrace the tea party mindset, this blog is run by folks who believe firefighters are overpaid, pampered, and spoiled.

    Excerpt:

    You are lying.

And quit the NYPD BS. Although I am willing to admit you are doing a helluva a lot more work than our local slugs who do almost nothing, I’m sick of the not so veiled references to 9/11.

NYPD did nothing more than block the stairwells and keep people from getting out of the Twin Towers. You cost a lot more lives than you saved.

    There. I said it..
That's the political environment I worked for over 30 years.
They told me if I voted for Hillary Clinton the president would be emotional, impulsive, and unpredictable. They were right. I voted for Hillary Clinton and got a president that is emotional, impulsive, and unpredictable.

I'm not saying you're stupid. I'm saying you have bad luck when it comes to thinking.

Just like every political party or persuasion, there are extremist. Some still believe we never visited the Moon.

To give this guy any time is a waste of time and feeds his little ego and conspiracy theory. Ignore him and eventually he will go away.

I wish I could agree. Unfortunately, that was the mindset of even the established media in the county during my career. In fact, since I retired, it's only gotten worse.

Public employees are being blamed for everything short of solar flares.

One of the (many) things I don't understand about modern politics is how there are so many firefighters who complain about government spending, too many taxes and evil unions... However, they carry an IAFF card, want more firefighters & stations and they expect a raise every year.

Dead-on. Many firefighters don't see that disconnect.

I was the same way when I was working. I would remind those who complained about big government and too many taxes that 100% of their compensation was derived from the taxation of others.

Their response was that the taxes that benefitted them were good taxes.

It's a fair question for people that support that side of the political aisle, and I know a lot of my guys do. I now see the Republicans are pledging $100 billion in cuts if they gain control. Where do you think that's going to come from? I guarantee we'll see further cuts to SAFER and other AFG grants, as well as the USFA. These people are not our friends and never have been.

The only problem with Socialism is that sooner or later you run out of other people's money!

Same here....the same fat cat, private firms who collapsed the economy now blame us because we {civil servants} have jobs and secured our future. I love the irony in that they claim our pensions did it....but yet the guys who ran ponzi schemes are some how now not at fault.....errr....what?! The fact is that these suits have always looked down their noses at cops and firemen....now they point their finger at us....and don't relize three of their own fingers point back at themselves. This goes for both the Yuppies and right wing-nuts.....there are two extremes happening here.....Progressives and Libratarians.....both need to STFU and get a grip on reality.

It's obvious that if you believe in taxation at all, you must accept any level of taxation and cannot think that the government ever taxes too much. What a total disconnect.

I am an oddball in that I think taxation should be opposite of the way it is now. I don't have a real problem with taxes, and I think they have a legitimate purpose. But I would rather see higher taxes from my local government, and lower taxes from the feds. I am more likely to see a benefit impacting me from city or county taxes than federal taxes. The slice of the pie should go down, the greater the distance my taxes have to travel.

But that is just me and many people think that's weird.

The answer to that is simple. If people don't want to pay the taxes that support our services, we cut. Lay people off, close stations, shut down companies, etc.

What I can't stomach is the constant attacks against "fat" government employees and their pensions that are ruining our economy. Most (granted, not all) of these attacks seem to come from people aligned with the Tea Party movement. When I've questioned a few of them about what their beliefs mean to public safety they always respond, "Well, I'm not talking about firefighters, everyone knows we need them." Really? I wonder if everyone got that memo? Because when you talk about the kind of cuts they're talking about, there's not gonna be an exemption for firefighters. It's going to hit us all, and in a lot worse ways than we're dealing with already.
