  • Heros! Whats wrong with our Departments Today?

To all of our Fellow Paid and Volunteer Fire Fighters in our society Today:

What is going on with some of our Departments today? Have you ever had what i like to call a "HERO" in your department. My explination of a HERO is a Fireman or a Emergancy Responder that wants to be head of the game and wants to put more lives at risk then he is saving. A person that wants to blow 4 stop signs and cut traffic off to try and get to the station. A guy that has a Blue or Red light on his personal vehical that thinks hes above the law. Someone that wants to be a "Hard ***" and wants to show he nows more than anyone else.

Has anyone ever had a person on there department or known someone like this.

I believe that our Fire Departments have turned into a bunch of "Heros" today.

I have found myself losing most of my respect for some Fire Fighters i work with everyday. I have took countless hours thinking about this and trying to become a better person to never become one of these "HEROs"

I have lived by the Public reason: The public safety reason, That states may every fire fighter and Emergancy Responder put there lives at risk to save a person in Danger at all times, May a fire fighter risk his life everyday to save another. May it be a Child or a Senior Citizen. May a Fire Fighter enter a Burning building or get a call of a car accident he shall Put his life in Danger for that person but may he never put other peoples life in danger for his actions:

What happened to Fire Fighters Living by the Firemans Prayer:

When I am called to duty, God
    whenever flames may rage,
Give me the strength to save some life
    Whatever be its age.

Help me to embrace a little child
    Before it’s too late,
    Or some older person
from the horror of that fate.

    Enable me to be alert
    And hear the weakest shout,
    And quickly and efficiently
    to put the fire out.

I want to fill my calling
and give the best in me,
    To guard my neighbor
    And protect his property.

And if according to Your will
I have to lose my life,
Please bless with Your protecting hand
    My children and my wife

WHat happened to the fire fighters that lived by this Pledge. What has happened to our SERVE AND PROTECT fire fighters: May god remeber all those fire fighters who have lived by this pledge and died by this pledge. Shall we honor the fire fighters who have lived everyday by this pledge and died by this pledge rather than lived by being a Hero. You will be Honored one of these day by being eaither a Hero or a Pubic Reasoner:

    God Bless
    - A fellow Fireman

The so-called "Fireman's Prayer" is a piece of literary garbage. Personally, I'd like to strangle the wannabe author who penned it. Not that that has anything to do with your post.

Don't you think it looks a little trollish to drop a bomb about "heros" as your first post?

The Code is more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules.

Nope, I'm not finding what you described.

I think you have these guys confused with prima donnas.

prima donnas: a vain or undisciplined person who finds it difficult to work under direction or as part of a team

fireman: or stoker, is the job title for someone whose job is to tend the fire for the running of a steam engine.

See we have it all wrong, the idea is to cause as much destruction, death and mayhem as possible on the way to a call.

You can hang it on a wall, or make a blanket out of it. All that retarded poem will ever do is cover an ugly spot on a wall or keep you warm and toasty. What you need to be more concerned with is training you and your folks so that you can respond to people in their darkest time of need and attempt to make a bad situation better. That and be able to walk out the door and go home to your family, not after every shift, but at the end of your career free of injury, cancer, and having a healthy mental state. Shove that poem up your ***.

You guys actually read that whole post?

I got a sentence in and got distracted by belly button lint.
I am now a past chief and the views, opinions, and comments are mine and mine alone. I do not speak for any department or in any official capacity. Although, they would be smart to listen to me.

Come on, the guy writes an eloquent, well reasoned post like that, and all you can do is focus on one little misspelling?
