BALTIMORE -- A police officer's car hit a Baltimore City fire truck Wednesday, sending the officer to a hospital with serious injuries.

...The officer was taken to Shock Trauma, [Police Department spokesperson] Guglielmi said.

A member of the fire engine company was also taken to Shock Trauma to be treated for facial injuries.

...The police cruiser sustained heavy damage. The engine company truck received moderate damage.

"What caused the collision, we don't know at this point," said fire department spokesman Kevin Cartwright.

Wow that is aweful. Baltimore PD is having a very bad week. Another one of their officers was murdered last week too.

According to the report (videos and photos concur), the police car rear ended the stopped engine. I have a sad feeling that this incident ended the way it did probably due to a lack of a seatbelt. We aren't invincible guys. None of us.
Even the burger-flippers at McDonald's probably have some McWackers.

You might be right about the seatbelt...I was looking at the photos (didn't watch the video) and thinking the wrecked cruiser didn't look horribly bad. I mean, I think I've seen worse wrecks survived.
