  • Personal Escape Systems

My department is getting ready to purchase new escape systems for our department. At the current time we are using a yates belt with 50' of escape rope and a 8 plate for the friction device. Were are looking to go with the Petzl Exo, or the Sterling F4, with the option of going with the Gemtor harness or staying with the yates belt. I would like to know what you guys are using and why you like or dislike the system. Thank you for the help.

we use the Petzl sytem in my dept. I like the system. Easy to use, and very simple. The only problem is its a little bulky but you forget its there after awhile. I don't know how the sterling thing even works but I know there are some systems that are along your waistline in the back which aren't buly but I don't know how they work. If you need to know anything about the Petzl system I can answer some questions.

You are a better man than me if you forget that damn thing is hanging off our sides.

I have a Sterling F4. I like it. My advice: get a few and try them. Whichever ones you don't like, send back.

Until then spend 40 bucks on some rope and a carabiner and put it in your gear. Better than jumping.

For another $40 you can get a hook, too.
Opinions my own. Standard disclaimers apply.
