  • 2 Killed in Oklahoma Medical Helicopter Crash

KINGFISHER, Okla. (AP) - A medical helicopter on its way to pick up a patient crashed in a central Oklahoma field Thursday night, killing two of three people on board, authorities said.

The helicopter was en route from Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City to a hospital about 90 miles away in Okeene when it went down about 8 p.m. near Kingfisher, said Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford. Kingfisher is about 50 miles northwest of Oklahoma City.

"Three people were on board, but one of them survived and is in the process of being airlifted back to Oklahoma City," Lunsford said.

The Eurocopter AS350 helicopter is registered to Eagle Med LLC in Wichita, Kan., according to FAA records. An Eagle Med spokesman didn't immediately return a call seeking comment late Thursday.

Integris Baptist spokeswoman Brooke Cayot said the hospital contracts with Eagle Med for its medical flight services.

"They are not our employees, but it is our pain anytime something like this happens," Cayot said.

A woman answering the phone at Okeene Municipal Hospital said she didn't have any information about the crash.

Investigators with the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board were headed to the crash site, Lunsford said.

I've worked with the survivor and the victim, didn't know the pilot. Very sad news. Word at this time is that the person that survived was found quite a ways from the scene, causing speculation that he was able to bail prior to impact. No idea on cause at this time.

Many prayers to the families, and many of my friends and coworkers that know these guys.
