  • Turnout Gear ~ (Black Shell)

Our dept. runs Janesville, black turnout gear now. We've been using Janesville for the past 10+ years. After a few years, the black shell starts to turn a brownish color (which I've heard is very common). A question I would like to ask out there, is there another manufacturer, (ex. Globe G - Extreme) that doesn't turn color and stays "black"? Both SOG's are a higher end product. Unfortunately, it looks very used after a couple of years. I would like input from those dept.'s that use the Globe G Extreme TOG. Or is there anything out there that will not make the shell turn color? I know manufacturers dye the color... We try to keep the TOG out of sunlight also, but doesn't seem to help.

Thanks to all for your input.

You're kind of SOL when it comes to the outer shell fading. The black does that no matter who the shell manufacturer or the final assembly company is. The black is just very sensitive to UV and heat.
