  • College Helmet Survey

    To whom it may concern,

I am a college student at the University of Cincinnati working on project to redesign and improve the classic firefighter helmet. Below is a link to a survey with a few simple question concern your experience with your firefighter helmet and gear.

If you could please take a couple minutes of your time to fill out the survey, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thank you,

    Tom Gatlin

I completed the survey. However, those questions are so vague, I hope you're able to get enough commonly grouped answers for the survey to be of some use. The survey doesn't take into account leather versus plastic, different manufacturing styles, age of the helmets in question, how often the user is actually wearing them into a fire, etc.

BoxAlarm, I am with you on this. From looking at his survey and I did fill it out, there wasn't much that anyone else hasn't asked in these forums.

There was nothing about make, style or the composition of the helmet. It was vary vague at best!

I doubt if he will get too much to compile on this. I hope he gets a passing grade for effort!

How often do I was my helmet?? Every time it gets dirty. This month that might be never - next month that might be weekly.

I have to agree the questions are pretty vague but I'm in hopes that these are the "first round" and he's using the broad spectrum of replies to help taylor the next survey into something meaningful.

          Fire Fighter Concept Helmets

Thank you all for your feedback on my project. I did release after review my results that my questions were vary vague and missed some crucial information. Lucky, I was able to sit down with several dozen Cincinnati firefighters face to face to get a better understanding of the main issues.

Now I have a new survey which show three of my proposed ideas for a new fire helmet. They are hand drawn, explained and labeled. If anyone out there can spare a few minutes to review them and answer a few questions I would greatly appreciate it. I am looking for as much feedback as possible, both constructive and critical, so feel free to be as honest as you like.

Thank you all for your help with my project thus far.

          Sincerely,

          Tom
