Ok, sounds more like you are looking for a training SOP than a checklist to be used at the actual call. That makes more sense. A checklist at the call is a little too late.

Here is our SOG for FAST responses. Everyone that is FAST trained knows it in and out and anyone can (and has) been the "command" staff.

I also forgot to mention, not always will we get the Chief assigned to the full still. We might get his Deputy or the shift commander who is a Captain. So again, not knowing who we will get, if they are handheld and read the job task in outline fore, it is up to them to be ready for the call. I cannot make the other job train, but they do read their task response lists.

I know this sounds goofy to want to have, but in the MABAS division I work in, all the Chiefs want 'checklists' for every task needed. They are mailed to each department when the box cards come out and they are to go over the checklist that pertains to their task.

I am more than aware of the importance of RIT and that it needs to be trained on way before it happens. I teach RIT for the Illinois Fire Service Institute, so I do know the importance of it.

We went to a box alarm yesterday that turned into a 4-11. 6 unit townhouse fire running the common attic along with a broken gas main in the rear and a temp of 2 degrees. A firefighter was missing and the Maday was broadcast just as we were walking up. We were told to go to the rear and assist RIT. When we got there, the two Chiefs, one rear sector command, the other was safety, just stood and stared at each other. Myself and the RIT officer started into the building, with both of our 4 man crews, all our tools and a charged 1.75 with a 15/16 tip to look for the guy when the two Chiefs pulled us back and said to wait. I told him the only way we were not going in was if they ordered us out, which he did. The firefighter was found outside and not harmed. I went up to rear command and asked him what the f##k that was all about. He said he 'locked up' and forgot what to do in a RIT situation. Now this is a very experienced Chief who sees a ton of fire.

That is my want for a checklist, so they can read them before the fire comes in and maybe it will help the next guy to not vapor lock.

We all think we are ready for the RIT call, we train on it as close to real life as possible, we practice all the lifts and drags, but when the call comes in and the fire is literally blowing out the only enterance you have 3/4 involved, [like ours was], that is when you see if you have what it takes. That Chief did not. If he was spoon fed the info beforehand, maybe he would have been a little better prepared.

I too am with Bones. We have a checklist that is used to confirm that RIT equipment is stowed correctly in its proper location, and that certain items are set up for rapid implementation (as most of our stuff should be anyway). This checklist is not to be consulted on the way to a job nor after arriving at one, it is for pre-job readiness, in line with regular PMI on apparatus and equipment.

RIT is as critical as attack, ventilation, search, etc, and I sincerely hope that where you work, checklists are not consulted before those assignments, either.

If you meant readiness checklists, please advise and we can perhaps assist....

I have added a RIT Chief to my full still response. I was wondering if anyone has a 'checklist' that could be given to the Chief when he gets on scene in order to make sure all things are spelled out for him.

i'm not quite sure what you mean by a "checklist" . Do you mean a list of tools that he should have ready for his RIT team or a list of duties for him to perform such as throwing ground ladders for egress (if it hasn't been done yet ) ? Gotta agree with Bones42 , he should damn well know what his job is and he shouldn't need a "checklist".

Our RIT/FAST brings their own Chief. And if he needs a checklist, they won't be our RIT/FAST again.
