  • Fire alarm panel security

Been running into numerous alarm panels with broken locksets and being forced open.

Solution....If you have adopted the IFC, write the complex management a citation every time you find a panel open. Should solve the problem in a rapid, efficient and orderly manner.

The Fire Code requires security for all devices- panels, pull stations, etc. If the panels are being jimmied open to the point where they can no longer close securely, they are failing to secure.

Interpret it however you want. If It were me, and there were issues arising from panels being accessed by unauthorized individuals, I would write them a notice of violation and if happens again, write them a citation. If they want to appeal, let them. In my time, I have found that very few judges like to go against the fire code.
