    Nikon D3000

I use a Nikon. The new D3000 is under $500 for a kit and will work great. I just got a new 55-200mm lens and remote flash cord too. They will help with photos without flash glare and the 200mm lens works good to photograph things you cant get to.

We use the Nikon D90 - it is great - under $1000 and when you go to blow up the pics - everything is comes in crystal clear - if you have focused of course.

Canon is always good. I like them. My friend J has a fireproofing nyc company and he uses nikons. Just preference I think. I don't think it makes a humongous difference.

A DSLR would be preferable but its not the end of the world if you do not have one. I would recommend at least getting a point and shoot with a hot shoe that enables you to attach a larger flash. You need as much light as possible on fire scenes.

No matter what you choose, be sure you learn how to use it properly and practice taking photos. Digital is cheap.
