Does anyone have a step by step checklist of exactly what is needed in a physical to comply with NFPA 1002 and NFPA 1582 for driver/operators?

Something I can hand to our medical providers and say "This is what I want done".

NFPA does not have it clearly spelled out (that I find)

I would use the standards themselves.

Any "shortcut" checklist you find will be someone else's interpretation of the standard -- not the standard itself. If you want to meet the standard; go by exactly what the standard says.

The Code is more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules.

I received my driver/operator certification not too long ago, and never heard anything about a physical. I would assume it would just be a fairly clean bill of health, no risk of seizures or red-flagged heart issues... maybe similar to the physical required for a CDL?

It is a LOT more intense than a CDL. Check out 1582. 6.22.1.1 says you smoke, you fail.

        Brutal.

Deputy, you are correct. I was just hoping to make it a little more streamlined.

          Brutal is an understatement.

Is there an age limit as well??? If not, then there should be. Seriously, I'd rather have a smoking 30 yr old driving my rig, than a 45 yr old that doesn't smoke. Hopefully less chances of him having a coronary when the tones go off.

Do the lawyers know this, and can they use it as a means to say that the FD is liable for any unseen accident, because he smokes???

Thanks, I guess for the info. I'll have to check it out more in depth.
