Then there's (insert manufacturer name here) who will say "Thats what they wanted, thats what they spec'd, so thats what we built."
-Uhhhhh, ok.....But where was your engineering department for the pre-build meeting? Or, god forbid....a pre-BID meeting, to say that "while a good idea, accepted engineering practices wont allow us to build that." Or, "There's too much weight on a single axle, we wont build it unless it's a twin screw..."
Hmmmm....Did Corporate sales and marketing have the engineers locked in a closet, tied to a chair with duct tape covering their mouths? If this were the case, my feelings towards many manufacturers these days would lighten up, as it is certainly somewhat of a plausible excuse for some of the garbage hitting the streets these days.
And what about simple problems, that could be handled with a few phone calls, like engine or tranny problems? (insert builder name here) could just be the men that they claim they are, admit that it was their improper installation procedures that caused the problem, buck up and admit it and pay for the correction, instead of stalling, wasting time by having the piece brough to their repair facility, claiming they cant find a problem and saying it's (insert engine or tranny builder name here) fault. Ok, fine. Even if it IS their fault which 90% of the time it's not) why dont you, as the truck builder, buck up, pay for it so that Podunksville isnt out of the only truck they have for 2 or 3 weeks, and fight with (insert engine or tranny builder name here) later for the money?
Chief, go back and read through my posts. Ask some of the people on here. I am the first person to complement good, decent, reputable builders. Even builders that I choose not to buy or purchase- HME for example- I think HME/Ahrens Fox builds a fine product and they stand behind it. Unfortunately they chose not to bid on our recent purchase. Had they done so, I dare say they very well could have been one of our top 3 choices. Coinciding with that statement, I dont automatically go and badmouth builders when one company has a problem. But when numerous companies around you start having the same issues over and over again, and the builder wont stand up to it, or finally will when it is proved that they are at fault, well, ya gotta take notice to that! Maybe we're just a victim of geographical circumstances, chief. I am from the Philadelphia Metropolitan Region. Draw a circle 100 miles around the center of Philadelphia. You know how many fire companies surround me? Montgomery County, Pa alone I think has just about 100 fire stations. Then there is Bucks County, Pa. And Delaware and Chester Counties in Pa. Then there are the states of Delaware and New Jersey. And Northeastern Maryland (Harford and Cecil Counties.) As you can imagine, being part of the "apparatus grapevine" my cell phone rings constantly and my emailbox is often full of discussion.
I may only have half the facts about Saulsbury, but one fact I do have that I bet a whole bunch of people on here agree with- that they are now not HALF the company they were prior to being bought out by you-know-who.
By the way, who do you sell for? E-One or Saulsbury?
Rant over.
