LOL.......Wow.....Chief had you done your homework, you would know that Bel Air's experience wasn't exactly a "bad experience." More like a downright absolute terrifying nightmare. This is just one of many that have rolled northbound on I-95 from Ocala lately. Then there are the technological terrors departing from Appleton lately. My beef isnt with blown lightbulbs, or loose wiring (or other "punchlist" items) upon delivery. My beef is with the absolute idiotic major league items that should never have left the engineering department of (insert builder's name here) even before the production orders hit the factory floor. Then, to boot, (insert manufacturer name here) wont stand up like the men of integrity that they claim to be, and buck up for their mistakes, and repair them or make right on them.
Then there's (insert manufacturer name here) who will say "Thats what they wanted, thats what they spec'd, so thats what we built."
-Uhhhhh, ok.....But where was your engineering department for the pre-build meeting? Or, god forbid....a pre-BID meeting, to say that "while a good idea, accepted engineering practices wont allow us to build that." Or, "There's too much weight on a single axle, we wont build it unless it's a twin screw..."
Hmmmm....Did Corporate sales and marketing have the engineers locked in a closet, tied to a chair with duct tape covering their mouths? If this were the case, my feelings towards many manufacturers these days would lighten up, as it is certainly somewhat of a plausible excuse for some of the garbage hitting the streets these days.
And what about simple problems, that could be handled with a few phone calls, like engine or tranny problems? (insert builder name here) could just be the men that they claim they are, admit that it was their improper installation procedures that caused the problem, buck up and admit it and pay for the correction, instead of stalling, wasting time by having the piece brough to their repair facility, claiming they cant find a problem and saying it's (insert engine or tranny builder name here) fault. Ok, fine. Even if it IS their fault which 90% of the time it's not) why dont you, as the truck builder, buck up, pay for it so that Podunksville isnt out of the only truck they have for 2 or 3 weeks, and fight with (insert engine or tranny builder name here) later for the money?
Chief, go back and read through my posts. Ask some of the people on here. I am the first person to complement good, decent, reputable builders. Even builders that I choose not to buy or purchase- HME for example- I think HME/Ahrens Fox builds a fine product and they stand behind it. Unfortunately they chose not to bid on our recent purchase. Had they done so, I dare say they very well could have been one of our top 3 choices. Coinciding with that statement, I dont automatically go and badmouth builders when one company has a problem. But when numerous companies around you start having the same issues over and over again, and the builder wont stand up to it, or finally will when it is proved that they are at fault, well, ya gotta take notice to that! Maybe we're just a victim of geographical circumstances, chief. I am from the Philadelphia Metropolitan Region. Draw a circle 100 miles around the center of Philadelphia. You know how many fire companies surround me? Montgomery County, Pa alone I think has just about 100 fire stations. Then there is Bucks County, Pa. And Delaware and Chester Counties in Pa. Then there are the states of Delaware and New Jersey. And Northeastern Maryland (Harford and Cecil Counties.) As you can imagine, being part of the "apparatus grapevine" my cell phone rings constantly and my emailbox is often full of discussion.
I may only have half the facts about Saulsbury, but one fact I do have that I bet a whole bunch of people on here agree with- that they are now not HALF the company they were prior to being bought out by you-know-who.
By the way, who do you sell for? E-One or Saulsbury?
Rant over.

I dont hate Pierce. I think they make a good truck. But, unfortunately, we had some significant problems with ours. I just like to remind people from time to time that they arent the perfect truck manufacturer. No one is.Leave a comment:

I really don't have a hidden agenda, it just cracks me up to read these apparatus posts bashing manufacturers, everyone of them has different ideas and ways of doing things, (some good and some not so good, E-One, Pierce, ALF, etc... included) if one manufacturer was perfect wouldn't we all be buying from them??
Again, welcome to the boards.

Firepiper- Why not put your cup of hater-ade down and step away. This is a thread about E-1 not Pierce. We all get the idea- you don't like Pierce.Leave a comment:

E-One is no different than anyone else. I know departments that hate Sutphen, Pierce, ALF, Seagrave, KME, Ferrara...............the list goes on. Everone has problems.Leave a comment:

So i guess what you are telling me is that a "bad experience" with a dept. in Maryland means that a good product or a good experience does not exist??, it is apparent that you don't like E-One but i would also suggest you have half of the facts about Saulsbury as well.Leave a comment:

Hey Chief, if the new improved E-Wont owned Saulsbury is so good, why dont you give the Bel Air Fire Company a call (Harford County, Maryland Company 3) and ask them about their new and improved E-Wont Saulsbury Experience.
Oh, and there are quite a few people that lurk on here that will vouch for the fact that I drink many different flavored kool-aids, and the Appleton Flavor ISNT one of them!Leave a comment:

My dept bought a Pierce once.....the starter was installed incorrectly at the factory, dealer service sucks, had to be repainted 3 times, parts take forever and a day to be shipped..........they are not the golden child by any means.Last edited by firepiper1; 04-19-2007, 10:25 PM.Leave a comment:

The departments around here use all different kinds of trucks. One department bought a E-one a few years back and they had so many problems with it the turned it into a resurve truck with less than five years running first out. And most departments keep their trucks in service for at least ten years around here so that is the only experience with e-one not a good one. But it may have been just a bad apple and they were the unlucky ones to get it. I have been on pierce, ALF, Rosebauer, and E-one trucks. E-one was the worst ride and had the most problems of them all.Leave a comment:

Wowser...first post here is to accuse a long time poster of being a koolaid drinker...perhaps you have a hidden agenda? One can only guess.
Welcome to the boards.

Let me guess, another Pierce Kool-Aid drinker..., talk is cheap and rumors run wild, do yo really know the facts??, what exactly is your version of "Saulsbury's weakness", running in the red maybe???i would however agree that closing the NY plant was a mistake by that administration of E-One, that plant had started to turn things around financially and by then it was too late. Some will say that the quality of the S/S product is better, some just can't stand the fact that E-One bought out Saulsbury and refuse to even look, to bad for them i guess.
