I have heard recently PFD is having problems with the Mid-Engine ALF's. Driveline issues among others. Anyone got the scoop on this?
Dave
The drivelines were for the pumps / CAFS - and ALF replaced everyone of them, or shall I say the manufacturer of the drivelines made good on all of them. Something to do with the U-Joints.
They just bought 7 more! So they must be happy with ALF.
The mid-engine ALF's use a side mounted hydraulicaly driven fan to cool the side mounted radiators.
PFD uses Telma electromagnetic brake retarders.
The reason I asked about them is I am hearing some things about the driveshafts not lasting very long. The previous shop manager at PFD is said to have called the trucks "an abortion". Don't know if its true or not, but would like to know as we are looking for a mid-engine. If they have problems we may be looking at E-Ones or Pierce Qauntum as options.
I would like any help I can get in this regard.
Dave
If anyone knows of a place with any pictures of there engines it would be much appreciated. I have been trying to find some good pictures of there engines for a while now. Thanks.

I have a few pics from the 2004 FRI of a brand new one. Send me a pm with email address and I'll send them to you.
I'd post one, but I can't remember how to make it small enough.
I sure hope that the side mount radiator works better for them than the one aerial (can't remember who made it but think it was Spartan) worked out for us. With our side mount system we had to make all kinds of mods due to loss of air flow at anything above 25mph. I blame Phoenix's designs more than the manufacturers they have been through.
A good link is Angelfire/chuckgrow.
If you can't get it directly go to yahoo, search for "angelfire chuck grow".
Lots of pictures from all over the west.
Thanks for the link, why so many mid mount engines, how do they go with cooling etc, considering its one of the hottest places in the country! what are the pro's and con's?
