After our bids, I would like to share some of that experience...
Bid 1. Came in lowest, had some really interesting features,
BUT lots of complaints on the mailing lists and boards about
timely delivery. Longest quoted delivery time. Lots of issues
quoted about getting information from the factory. Offered on
site warranty service, with no mileage charges. (at additional
charge) Service facility 3.5 hours away. 360 day delivery
Bid 2. Came in next, was very unresponsive to our bid specs (the parts
that they did not write) Lots of people very complimentary about the
manufacturer. Service facility only onsite. No comments about mileage
for service. Would NOT provide a print or drawing of what the truck would look like, every other bidder did. 330 day delivery
Bid 3. Highest bid - but still in budget - barely. Very responsive to bid,
and basicaly nothing but good about manufacturer. 200 day delivery.
Bid 4. No bid from a regional manufacturer. (Others were all big companies)
Bid 5. No bid due to response time. (21 days)
Bid 6. No bid, they felt they could not build the truck as speced for the money.
One company in AL wanted to bid, but contacted us after the bid
closing, and we were not comfortable with them due to a neighboring
departments truck they bought from them. (Can you imagine a 1 inch
tank fill line? On a TANKER?)
Anyone want to guess which one we went with?
