  • Whats my bid! (New game show)

After our bids, I would like to share some of that experience...

Bid 1. Came in lowest, had some really interesting features,
BUT lots of complaints on the mailing lists and boards about
timely delivery. Longest quoted delivery time. Lots of issues
quoted about getting information from the factory. Offered on
site warranty service, with no mileage charges. (at additional
charge) Service facility 3.5 hours away. 360 day delivery

Bid 2. Came in next, was very unresponsive to our bid specs (the parts
that they did not write) Lots of people very complimentary about the
manufacturer. Service facility only onsite. No comments about mileage
for service. Would NOT provide a print or drawing of what the truck would look like, every other bidder did. 330 day delivery

Bid 3. Highest bid - but still in budget - barely. Very responsive to bid,
and basicaly nothing but good about manufacturer. 200 day delivery.

Bid 4. No bid from a regional manufacturer. (Others were all big companies)

Bid 5. No bid due to response time. (21 days)

Bid 6. No bid, they felt they could not build the truck as speced for the money.

One company in AL wanted to bid, but contacted us after the bid
closing, and we were not comfortable with them due to a neighboring
departments truck they bought from them. (Can you imagine a 1 inch
tank fill line? On a TANKER?)

Anyone want to guess which one we went with?

  • #2
BTW, specs were for a pumper, 1250/1250 with CAFS, through the tank
ladders and suction, manual drop down for porta tank, midship pump,
3 speedlays, 1 crosslay, 1 extended bumper with trash line.

    274k budget, including loose equipment.

    Southern MO.

Going out on a limb here but I’d pick bid 3.
      So name, names for us.

Since we're dealing with a form of government here, I'm going to place my chips with #1. But I hope you went with #3. Good luck!

No one is going to try to guess who the bidders were?

Depending on what area of the country you're from I can put about 3-4 names on each line based on the local dealers as far as the responsiveness warranty work goes.

But since I like game shows...

#1 - Central States, just on delivery time issues discussed in other threads
#2 - Crimson? Thinking it's a non-sole source with the comment about parts of the spec they didn't write. Maybe ALF or E-One?
#6 - Thinking Pierce, but last couple bids I was involved in they weren't highest on similar specs to what y'all have listed.
#3 - KME? Based on comments in other threads.

                Sorry, wrong game show.

I'd be interested in who the players were. I have my theories on some, but I'll keep them to myself. (I could be accused of picking on a compeitor, etc.)

Really, isn't the bid process public knowledge? What's the harm it putting it out here for all to see?

I can't guess at all of them, but I'm bettin #2 is Pierce...... We've had similar results from them. Didn't really care what our spec said, they just bid the truck they wanted us to buy........

                      I'm guessin #1 was Seagrave.......

                        Bid 1. Rosenbauer-Central States

                        Bid 2. Pierce

Bid 3. This one I'm not sure on I'm thinking Crimson or KME.

Bid 4. Firemaster didn't bid? Or possibly Precision.

Bid 5. If it was my experience, I'd say Pierce,

                        Bid 6. E-One

And AL was probably Ferrarra (I think I remember them being down there).

                          I'll Bite

These are just wild guesses since, each one of your six could be anyone!

                          1. Rosenbauer

                          2. Pierce, or KME

                          3. Elite, Pierce, ALF, Ferrara

                          4. Precision, Alexis, Darley, Custom Fire

                          5. Pierce, KME, Ferrara, E-one, Seagraves,

                          6. KME, Ferra, ALF, E-one, Seagraves

As for AL my only guess would be Crimson since they used to be in AL.

Now the important question? What do we win if we get it right?

Second question? When do we get the answers?
