No, just storage with additional hose reels (probably for air tools.)

Remember that wooden ladders are still very popular for a lot of West Coast departments, and it appears that we've found yet another one.

Santa Monica KME Tiller Ground Ladders

Yes that is a Wooden ground ladder and as stated many of the FD's that use TDA's (Tractor Drawn Aerials) like LA City, San Francisco etc,

If my memory serves me correctly LALCO (Los Angeles Ladder Co.) makes the wooden ground ladders and Vancouver B.C. used to also use them due to the Trolley Bus overhead 600V DC wires but discontinued using them because the shop person in house who repaired them retired and they had no one to take over. I believe they are quite a bit more expensive as well and require a specific design for storing in the ladder compartment.

                    Wooden Ladders

they are made per custom order by ALACO Ladder Co.

You will have to call and get further info. Their website does not provide info about the wood fire service ladders.

I had the pleasure of meeting a BC from LA FIRE about 10 years ago at the LTI plant in PA. I asked about the wooden ladders. He stated that the Aluminum Compliment is approx 7,000 - 8,000 and their wooden complient is nearly 70,000.
