Do you think that Ferrara Fire Apparatus will now start building aerial products that come from the E-one or Kme plants, and do way with buying from Smeal ?

Yes, Ferraras aerial apparatus's are now coming from KME factories. I haven't really heard if they are coming from E-one too so you may want to do more research on that one!

I recently sent an inquiry to Ferrara asking if they were still using Smeal-built aerials on their ladder trucks now that Smeal is owned by Spartan and Ferrara is part of the REV Group along with E-One and KME. You would think that REV would want to keep the Ferrara aerial builds "in house" and not give more business to one of their primary competitors, e.g. Spartan. I believe it's common knowledge in the fire apparatus business that Spartan had to jump quickly to buy Smeal before the REV Group beat them to it. Anywho, Ferrara responded to my inquiry and informed me that they were currently using both Smeal and KME built aerial devices on their trucks. They wouldn't say how long this dual buy was going to continue but I wouldn't be surprised if this was going to continue until the current contract with Smeal expires, then it will only be KME aerials on the Ferrara trucks unless REV decides to let E-One get involved in building aerials for Ferrara as well. Something similar happened with Rosenbauer after they came out with their own custom cab/chassis (the Commander) and Spartan made the decision to not sell their cab/chassis to any apparatus builder that made their own cab/chassis, primarily impacting Ferrara and E-One. After this decision was made, there were only a small amount of trucks that Rosenbauer built and delivered on a Spartan Gladiator cab/chassis rather than on their Commander chassis. One example was several pumpers that went to Ft. Worth, Texas. This was because of a multi-apparatus contract that Rosenbauer had with Ft. Worth that required that the trucks be built on a Spartan chassis. Spartan decided to honor these type of contracts and continued to sell their chassis to Rosenbauer until this contract expired.

Its been exactly one month since the last post and I have yet to come up with much more information. I plan to get in contact with either a Ferrara rep or a REV group rep in hopes to find more info. I still don't understand why they would want a mix of KME and Smeal on their trucks, most departments wouldn't want to see "identical trucks with two different builds of aerials on them.

Okay so a Ferrara representative got back to me and actually called to talk with me about the whole situation of who is producing their aerial products. Any of the new Aerial products that have an R in the end of its name (i.e. HD-77R Ladder) are "New" and their aerials are produced by the REV group so basically KME is producing them. For some really weird reason the other aerials have Smeal aerial products still being produced on them, it is beyond me why the REV group would want to be sending money to one of their rivaling companies.

While I have no actual knowledge of if they are still using Smeal or only KME aerials, if they are still using Smeal could it be due to a contract that has not yet run out?
                Just a thought,

Ferrara Fire Apparatus, most likely had a long term contract with Smeal, and you don't really see to many Spartan ladders being built anymore !
