LOCATION: Fire Prevention & Electrical Safety, Electrical Division, Southern Wyoming

FULL PAY BAND 6: $1837 - $3398 Per Month
HIRING ZONE: $1837 - $3398 Per Month

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of training and experience equivalent to an associate’s degree in fire science, law enforcement or other closely related field PLUS three years of work experience as a firefighter or law enforcement officer INCLUDING two years of work experience in the investigation or analysis of causes of fires.

NOTE: Peace Officer Certification through the Wyoming Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission is mandatory within one year of employment.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Investigates electrical license violations, gathers facts, analyzes evidence and writes detailed reports; performs audits of electrical contractors regarding apprenticeship related training programs; investigates fires, explosions, bombings and other arson related accidents; testifies in court and before licensing boards and issues warrants or subpoenas.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Investigates electrical licensing violations and complaints; investigates fires, explosions, bombings and other arson related crimes; conducts interviews of witnesses, suspects and others subsequent to investigations; formulates detailed reports to communicate all information gathered subsequent to investigations; drives a department vehicle throughout the state and neighboring states to conduct business of the department; audits training programs; attends training and industry meetings to keep abreast of new technologies and changes to codes and laws related to the field.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge of law and criminal procedures; knowledge of courtroom procedures; knowledge of constitutional and criminal law. Skill in evaluating and decision making; skill in oral and written communications; skill in interviewing witnesses and eliciting information; skill in use of firearms.
