FULL PAY BAND 6: $1837 - $3398 Per Month

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of training and experience equivalent
to a high school diploma
PLUS five years of professional work experience as a firefighter or other
closely related field INCLUDING two
years of full-time work experience as a fire prevention or fire safety inspector
with assignments in fire
investigation.
NOTE: Preference will be given to applicants with certification as a fire
prevention/fire safety inspector or building
inspector through I.C.B.O. (International Conference of Building Officials).
Must be certified as a plans examiner
through I.C.B.O. within one year from date of hire.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Responsible for reviewing building construction
documents (plans and
specifications) to insure compliance with the minimum standards imposed by state
statutes which adhere to the Uniform
Building, Mechanical and Fire Codes; physically inspects existing public
buildings and other inhabited structures in order to
detect hazards and violations of the uniform fire code; conducts inspections to
insure compliance with the building construction
documents and the plan review.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Examines, analyzes and evaluates the building construction
documents to determine
conformance to the adopted codes; composes the General Plan Correction List
(plan review) noting items that are in
non-conformance with the adopted codes; confers with architects, engineers and
owners regarding construction designs, plans
and the conformance to adopted codes; receives, discusses and explains questions
and concerns of the applicable state
statutes, rule books, codes and regulations in order to make determinations and
decisions; conducts inspections pursuant to the
issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy compliance; composes correspondence
dealing with deficiencies noted during new
construction inspection and fire code maintenance inspections in existing
buildings and explaining non-compliance items.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge of modern and complex techniques and practices
of building construction;
knowledge of principles and practices of basic engineering and pertinent Federal
and State Codes and Regulations including
building, mechanical, electrical and fire codes. Skill in using computers;
skill in oral and written communications.
