  • South Manatee Florida Fire Chief

    The South Manatee Fire and Rescue District is accepting applications for the position of Fire Chief.

    South Manatee Fire and Rescue District serves as a special taxing district set up to provide fire protection for the Cedar Hammock Fire Control District and Southern Manatee Fire & Rescue District. The District serves more than 60 square miles located in South Manatee County Florida. It employs 98 full time and 10 volunteer employees. South Manatee operates eight fire stations with an approximate annual budget of $7 million dollars.
    Current projects include; one fire station under construction, one maintenance shop just completed, one temporary station in operation, two property contracts pending for stations, and one 3.5 acre training facility in use. The Districts goals include: enterprising the maintenance shop and developing other areas to enterprise. Development of programs for education and public awareness and continual training in all areas including Hazardous Materials specialization.
    All applicants must provide the District with a detailed resume, including education, work history, salary history, and personal references. A cover letter with a mission statement or career goals must accompany the resume. Details on multiple station experience, special taxing district knowledge and budget setting experience are a plus. Copies of Certificates, Diploma’s and other credentials are to be included for consideration.
    Applicants must have a minimum of an Associates Degree in Fire Science, however, equivalent experience and training may be considered. Applicants will be a Florida State Certified Firefighter and Fire Inspector. They must also have knowledge of Independent Taxing Districts. Candidates must have 10 years of experience in fire service with 5 years in top administrative management. Planning, organization, budgeting, and personal skills are a must. Applicants must successfully pass medical exams and substance abuse testing.
