DEPUTY FIRE CHIEF

The City of Peoria, Arizona was founded as an agricultural community in the
mid-1880's and has become one of the fastest growing cities in Maricopa
County-the fastest growing county in the United States. Vestiges of its
quiet rural lifestyle are gradually giving way to a modern suburban
community with a population of 101,235 residents and a projected buildout of
130,000 residents by the Year 2020. The Peoria Fire Department operates
five fire stations, employs 100 full-time employees, and has a Fiscal Year
2001 budget of over $7 million.
This position requires five years of broad experience in all aspects of
municipal fire work, including two years of administrative responsibility at
the Battalion Chief level or higher. The ideal candidate must possess
equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
with major course work in fire science, public administration or a related
field. A Master's Degree, certification as an Executive Fire Officer from
the National Fire Academy, and experience in emergency medical services are
preferred.
The finalist will be an experienced and innovative fire manager and
administrator, who possesses outstanding communication, organizational and
leadership skills. Experience in a unionized labor/management environment
is required. The ideal candidate will have experience with operating and
capital improvement budgets; contract administration; maintenance, systems
and technical applications; and personnel management. Qualified individuals
