    The Keizer Fire District is currently advertising in order to establish a Civil Service list for Firefighter/Medic positions. Individuals filling this position will be responsible for providing advanced life support care of sick and injured persons, fire suppression, rescue, public service requests, public education and other assigned projects. Minimum position qualifications include valid and insurable Oregon Class "C" driver's license, State of Oregon certified Paramedic, DPSST or NFPA equivalent: Basic Firefighter, Apparatus Driver, and Hazardous Materials Operations. Individuals employed by the District must also comply with the following within the first twelve months of employment: obtain DPSST Instructor 1, demonstrate their ability to operate all District apparatus, and live within 10 road miles of the District's main fire station. Attendance and participation in weekly Monday evening drills is required. Candidates must possess fire suppression, rescue and ALS treatment skills, as this is not an entry-level position.

    The above salary range includes an 8% paramedic pay incentive. The District currently offers the following benefits: sick time, vacation, holidays, health, vision, dental, disability insurance, life insurance, and 100% PERS retirement.

    Interested and qualified individuals should request an application packet from the Keizer Fire District's business office located at: 661 Chemawa Road N.E. Keizer or (503) 390-9111 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. All applications must be post marked by Friday, May 26, 2000. Qualifying applicants will be invited to participate in a written examination to be held on Friday, June 9, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. Students currently enrolled in a paramedic program will be allowed to test upon receipt of verifiable proof of their enrollment.

    The Keizer Fire District provides fire suppression, rescue, hazardous materials, advanced life support ambulance transportation, and public education programs to a primarily residential community with a combined staffing of 19 career and 40 volunteer highly trained and dedicated professionals. The Fire District is governed by a five-member publicly elected Board of Director's serving a population of 30,000 citizens. Our service area covers 10 square miles located just north of the City of Salem and east of the Willamette River. In 1999 the Fire District answered 2,205 emergency responses within the community and has an ISO Class 2 rating.

    Services are provided from a centrally located fire station built in 1996 with an apparatus fleet comprised of: 3-ALS ambulances (1999 Freightliner/Lifeline, 1993 International/Road Rescue, 1987 Cayel Craft), 5-1,250 gpm Pumpers (1997 Pierce Saber, 1994 Pierce Saber, 1991 Pierce Lance, 1982 Pirsch & 1979 Pirsch), 1-1,250 gpm 75' Ladder Truck (1985 Pirsch), 1-Medium-Duty Rescue (1993 International/Lifeline), and 1-Mini-Pumper/Grass Rig (1996 Ford/General Fire Apparatus).
