Portable Suction

What type and brand of portable suction units do you carry on your trucks when you respond to medical calls?

I am the new guy in our department and am learning the ropes. We do not have a suction unit and am just wondering what models are used and what your opinion is of the unit, and about what the unit costs.

Doesn't get used very often so we don't have to worry about the battery being dead.

As much as I'd like to have one of the SCCORTs, we use the V-Vac due to it's cost effectiveness.

Impact 305's on the rigs and Res-Q-Vac's in jump kits on fire apparatus.

We carry manual suction in the bags, a portable LSU unit and another LSU hardwired into the Unit.

The portable unit is in a charger on the ambulance so we dont have to worry about it bieng dead. But we carry the manual just in case some unseen problem should arrise with the portbale. (Our old one conked out on scene once, glad we didnt need it.)

We now have the Res-Q-vacs in our kits, and have tossed all the old V-vacs.

While most portable manual suction units tend to both and suck and blow (figuratively speaking ), the Res-Q-vac is noticeably better than the v-vac.

Next on the order list is a battery powered/rechargeable unit for the light rescue.

The EMS agency I used to run with has the III's on the Ambulances and the TEN mounted in the Response Unit.

Not the worlds biggest fan of the V-Vac but they do have their place. As said before it's cheap, compact, and the batteries never die (but the same could be said for a turkey baster )
