Fire Extinguishers

What type of fire extinguishers, do you keep on your pumpers?. Have any fondness for any type? I prefer CO2 for electrical fires.

On our pumper, we carry:
A. One 2 1/2 gallon water (ISO required)
B. One 20 lb. BC dry chemical (ISO required)
C. One 10 lb. CO2
D. Two 20 lb. Purple K

We also carry ABC dry chemical powder in bags, for chimney fires.

Obviously, extinguishers have a time and place, when combatting certain types of fires. They are part of the arsenal, but only to be used in particular situations and size of fires.

We have had great success with a quick knock on chimney fires with the good old fashioned water can. It is amazing what the 1:1700 conversion can do. :-)

Those water cans are great. In a hurry, they can be refilled with water and pressurized with an air compressor.

One of the facts that I emphasis in our FD, is that extinguishers are more effective, with a trained user. We have extinguishers just for training. An area setup to discharge various types of agents.
