Over the top POV's

Recently I saw someone link another website that people use to buy/sell/trade lights and sirens. They had a lot of good info but after looking at the forums of the users pov's it shocked my how many people in my opinion go way over the top and have 2,000 dollars or more stuffed in their pov for lights. I honestly believe about 40% of them actually had more lights on them then most of our apparatus in town!

I am not going to knock anyone for having a dash light or having some lighting but really? This makes me think twice about where their heart really is in this service. I went all out and have a cheap dash light I got second had for free. Maybe other states it could be different but I still have to observe the speed limits and traffic right-of-way. I am not given any special "rights" to make sure I beat you to the station.

I am not attacking anyone, I am just asking where does this go from a passion of helping people to an obsession of who has the most lights?

What you just posted could be used in a term paper called "Wackers: What They Are and What They Do".

My experience has been that the more lights they have, the less they need them. I can tolerate 360-degree visibility if that's what they want, although here in KY it's not required. But you are 100% right. Some of these guys are all about red-light fever.

You're probably talking about elightbars, the wacker kingdom of the world...

I have 360 visibility, but, it's very, VERY conservative now. They are all interior LED's, and unless you're really looking, you can only see one when they are not switched on.

The people with a bar, AND dashlights in two different heights in the windshield, AND in the grill, AND in the bumper, AND down the side of the truck, well, you see where I'm going. That's too far. That's just, ridiculously too far.

If you want lights, peachy. Follow your statutes, and make sure it looks nice, and not like it has three full Engine's worth of lights on it.

I am Fire Police in Pa and have 1 lightbar. We respond POV and use our POV's at the scene. I rarely have the lights on when I'm responding. Always while at the scene.

HAHA, this reminds me of the funniest POV I've ever seen. It was a P.O.S. 80's Chevette with a fullsize lightbar, a dash light mounted above the mirror, a dash light on the dash, wig wags, two LED units in the grille, strobes in the tail lights, two single unit window mounted deck lights in the rear window, and a Federal E-Q2B. I still don't know how he ran all of that crap on the old crappy electrical system and small power plant that Chevette had. Further more, I don't see how he kept it from tipping over with that huge light bar on it, haha.

You know your lightbar is too big for your vehicle when you have to put clearance lights on the ends and you bump your head on it when you get out...

HAHA, unless you have way more lights then what I can see here, that relly isn't that bad. At least your truck is the size of an apparatus (kinda partial here, had a 2001 F250 with a V10, miss the truck, don't miss the fuel mileage).

No 800? No second VHF so you can lock one on a specific channel? Scanners? HF? P25 capability? And of course, the most important XM?

I have 9 radios in my truck, and still no use of the airbag zones. It is nicely done, so my wife even does not complain. Much.

9 radios! That would probably sound like a 1st grade class after eating pixie sticks... a whole lot of noise and I cant understand any of it haha.

I keep it simple, 1 radio and 1 light. Its cheaper this way too.

HAHA, I never had to worry about that with my wife. She never wanted to listen to the scanner I had at the house when I was at Dalton, she said she was too afraid of what she'd hear over it one day when I was on shift. I guess she had a point.
