I'm the one that sounded dramatic. I said tonight maybe 6 times in 2 sentences, between the excitement and making sure I use proper grammar my head was spinning. I haven't gotten an email or a phone call from anyone yet, so hopefully it works out in my favor. I'll let you all know.
That make you wait that long? Here we just send the probies out of the room to discuss and vote, then call them back in when we are done.
We do the same thing. Of course I have yet to see anybody voted down unless they have a history with some other department in the area that would give us reason to think that they may be a problem. We just don't have the manpower to turn down volunteers without a good reason.
Now I have seen lots of people not make it out of probation.

I turned in the application the beginning of July, but they still had to do the state police background check and what not and last night was the first regular meeting since then..so..I got my fingers, and toes crossed.
Our procedure is to note receipt of the application at the monthly meeting after it is received, investigate it before the next meeting, at which time the membership votes, then turn it over to the commissioners for appointment.
Since they always meet on the second Wednesday and we meet on the first Thursday, it's possible that someone putting in an application immediately after a meeting could end up waiting as much as two and a half months before hearing they've been appointed. Throw in the random possibility of a fire department meeting cancelled due to a lack of quorum and it could be longer.
